SUMMARY:COMING BACK FROM A CAREER BREAK
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Mary Beth Barrett-Newman\, President & Founder\, 2nd Career Consulting\n\nIs it possible to rejoin the professional workforce after a career break of 5\, 10\, or 15 years? There are many reasons one might take a career break\, but regardless of the reason\, heading back to the workforce can be daunting. How do you convince employers that\, in spite of your hiatus\, you're excited and ready to work?\n\nHaving a strategic plan\, the right tools and an effective process to follow are the keys to successfully returning to the workforce. Learn how to network effectively even when you aren't sure of what you want to do\, and why reaching out to former colleagues\, even after many years\, can still be helpful.\n\nThis presentation will help you understand:\n\n	The importance of staying current\;\n	The dos and don'ts of a successful search\;\n	The significance of using technology and social media in your search\;\n	That networking is critical and not as scary as it seems.\n\nMary Beth Barrett-Newman is an experienced executive\, coach and mentor with 20+years of her "first career" spent in financial services and consulting. She has recruited\, trained and managed countless professionals but it was her love for coaching and mentoring \n\nthat led to the creation of 2nd Career Consulting\, with a unique focus on people re-entering the workforce. Mary Beth is a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory assessments\, a Mock Interview Consultant for Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management\, a Volunteer Advisor at the Career Resource Center\, and a frequent speaker on issues related to today's job search and returning to the workforce. Mary Beth has a MBA in Finance from DePaul University and a BA in Business Administration from Augustana College.
