SUMMARY:Woodlands Academy Presents Theatrical Adaptation of "The Odyssey"
DESCRIPTION:The Theatre Program at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart presents its fall play\, "Anon(ymous)\," in the Susan Saint James Performing Arts Center at the school\, 760 E. Westleigh Road\, Lake Forest\, Nov. 6-8 at 7 p.m. and Sunday\, Nov. 9\, at 2 p.m.\n\n\n\n"Anon(ymous)" [by Naomi Iizuka]\, while funny in moments\, engages with the plight of war victims and refugees\, Sarah Grunnah\, Woodlands Academy theatre director\, explains. "It tells the story of a young person trying to forge an identity for himself without a place he calls home. The play is an adaptation of Homer's epic poem The Odyssey\, though knowing The Odyssey is not a prerequisite to seeing "Anon(ymous)." Grunnah adds\, "I selected this play because the story it tells is relevant to our students. I believe the purpose of theatre is to engage audiences in different issues and possibly even change how they think about the world."\n\n\n\nThis Woodlands Academy production is truly a collaborative effort. Art students are designing and creating the set\; developing images that will be projected on a large scrim\, building sets\, making shadow puppets and even creating a short animation for the play.\n\n\n\nFounded in 1858\, Woodlands Academy is an independent Catholic college preparatory day and boarding high school for young women\, and part of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart Schools that spans the United States and 40 other countries.
