Join the National Museum of the American Sailor on August 18, 2020 in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. After a multi-generational battle; which included lectures, marches, lobbying, and other forms of demonstrations, Congress enacted the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America by stating, “the right of citizens in the United States to vote shall not be denied to abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex” thus giving most women in the United States the right to vote. Museum Technician, Kim Ortega, will share “Great Lakes, Great Women” a presentation that explores the significant contributions of women to Naval Station Great Lakes from its opening in 1911 through the present. This presentation highlights several women who broke legal and civic barriers in the fight for inclusion, equality, and recognition within the United States Navy. This free presentation will be offered via Zoom starting promptly at 6:00 pm. Pre-registration is required for all attendees. The expected length is 45 minutes with time for questions afterwards.
