The League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area will host its Annual Fall Kickoff Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. — a perfect time of year to celebrate a new season and bring friends to the League. The event will take place at the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest (1890 N. Knollwood Road). This year’s guest speaker is Ngozi Okorafor, who will present "The Long Road: Musings on the Passage of the ERA and Women in Illinois Politics." Okorafor is chief operating officer and senior policy advisor of the Illinois Department of Central Management Services. She previously served as policy advisor to the Office of Governor Bruce Rauner; chief legal counsel/ethics officer of the Illinois Department of Human Rights; assistant chief counsel for the Illinois Department of Transportation; legal counsel for the Office of Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, Jr.; and Community Relations Director of The Renaissance Schools. Okorafor earned law and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University. The event is free to members and guests interested to learn about the League, and will include light refreshments. For more information, visit www.lwv-lflb.org.
