The Peace Corps is not just for graduating college students. People of all ages volunteer their time and talent to promote world peace and friendship while improving the lives of others. The Peace Corps eagerly seeks volunteers with a lifetime of experience.
The League of Women Voters - Lake Forest Lake Bluff Area is proud to say that one of its own members became a Peace Corps volunteer. Happie Datt, a past President of the League, fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams and signed up with the Peace Corps.
Happie has returned from her 27 month assignment and is eager to share her experiences.
The League invites you to her presentation on Sunday, August 19 from 2:00 - 4:00p.m. in the Lake Bluff Park District Community Room, 355 West Washington Ave., Lake Bluff.
Happie will recount her unique experiences in the Republic of Macedonia where she worked on local economic development. Hear her stirring story describing her assignment from start to finish. What it is like when one is assigned to a county where one doesn't speak the language? Do older volunteers have a difficult time? What difference can one make in a village?
Come and enjoy this fascinating journey.
