Alcoholiday: Let's Celebrate the End of Prohibitiion with Food, Drinks, Stories from 1933

Join us for an Alcoholiday! Step back in time with the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society to celebrate the repeal of the 18^th Amendment, the end of Prohibition in 1933. Listen to the strains of “Stormy Weather,” and learn about the history, food and drink of the era.
 
This one-of-a-kind event, with a special menu from 1933, takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 4 at Gorton Community Center. Advance tickets are $50 for members and $60 for non-members; prices at the door are $75 for all. Each ticket purchase will provide one raffle ticket to win fun prizes.    
 
Sonja Kassebaum, of the North Shore Distillery, will create three special cocktails from 1933 for guests to taste. North Shore Distillery is celebrating its 10^th anniversary and is known for artisanal cocktails using the finest and freshest ingredients. Guests will hear about the history of each cocktail, how the alcohol was made, and other tidbits about contraband cocktails of the Prohibition era. Learn about bathtub gin, 3% beer and other fascinating facts.
 
John Binder, author of The Chicago Outfit, will regale us with stories of bootleg gin, speakeasies and the growth of the city’s underworld. He has been researching and studying organized crime in Chicago for over 20 years. He was President of the Merry Gangsters Literary Society and the historical advisor for the A&E Biography Al Capone and the History Channel’s The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
 
Gorton Community Center is located at 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. The event will take place in the Grotto and Grotto Annex.
