Recipe for Change is a Chicago nonprofit that works with detainees incarcerated in Cook County Jail. Founded in 2012, by Chef Bruno Abate,
the program began as an opportunity for male detainees to learn about healthy food, good nutrition and the art of quality cooking. Over the years, we have grown into a full workforce development program and so much more.
We now support both men and women detainees and offer a variety of programs. Our culinary program includes formal culinary training, ServSafe certification and a pizza internship. The fine arts program includes music production and an art studio. Currently, we are launching our food truck initiative which will allow us to provide employment and additional training to program participants after their release.
Our goal is to help restore basic human dignity, which is essential if we want those affected to become productive members of society after their release. Recipe for Change is inspiring individuals to do better for themselves, their families and our community.
