Description
The LFCO 2022-2023 season opens with musical depictions of legends and fairytales. Anatoli Liadov’s Trilogy of tone poems depict fantastical characters from Russian folklore. Baba Yaga and Kikimora both tell stories of witches that hunt children, while The Enchanted Lake is a beautiful, atmospheric depiction of a moonlit lakeside scene, inhabited by fairies and wood sprites.
Becoming Medusa by Evanston-based composer Stacy Garrop explores the origin story of the famous snake-haired Medusa, and Tchaikovsky’s magical score to Swan Lake tells the tale of Siegfried and Odette’s love as it overcomes the magical spell that the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart has cast upon Odette turning her into a swan.
This concert features Lake Forest High School Junior, Aidan Watts playing the first movement of Bruch’s Violin concerto no. 1. This performance includes a newly composed ending by Charles Pikler the retired principal violist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra musician.
