Description
Gorton Community Center is proud to present a rough-cut of Left-Handed Pianist, a Kartemquin Film produced by award-winning filmmaker Diane Quon of Lake Forest, on Sunday, November 10 at 4 p.m. in the John and Nancy Hughes Theater. At 10 years old, Chicagoan Norman Malone survived a brutal attack that left him paralyzed on his right side. Nevertheless, he pursued his dream of playing the piano, eventually mastering some of the most difficult left-hand repertoire ever written. In this unforgettable afternoon, guests will witness Malone’s amazing story and his gifts in this “work-in-progress screening” of Left-Handed Pianist and be the first to see a Kartemquin Films documentary in the making. Following the screening, the 81-year-old musician will perform at the piano. Afterwards, there will be a discussion with the filmmakers: Academy Award nominee Quon, Kartemquin co-founder Gordon Quinn, Chicago Tribune arts critic Howard Reich, and Malone himself. Tickets for Left-Handed Pianist can be purchased online at gortoncenter.org.
