Description
(Highwood, IL) Midwest Young Artists (MYA), a Highwood Illinois based non-profit music school, is pleased to announce that tickets are now available to the public for the April 20th “20 YEARS YOUNG” anniversary benefit celebration and dinner at the exclusive SanFilippo Estate in Barrington at 7pm. Individual ticket reservations and various table options are available at: www.mya.org/benefit/. The estate is home to a jaw-dropping collection of industrial era music machines, antiques, steam engines, trains, phonographs, and an 8,000 pipe organ. To a wide range of collectors, music buffs, and engineering enthusiasts, this is close to nirvana.
Now in its 20th season, MYA is an educational organization that instills life skills in its students via ensemble education and the opportunity to perform on the world’s biggest stages. Through community outreach programs, scholarships, competitions, and nearly 100 performing ensembles, MYA enriches the lives of over 1,000 students annually with the power of music. The organization has earned both a top rating from Great Non Profits and is a Guidestar Trusted Partner, among the dozens of other awards and accolades accrued throughout the past two decades. Because this is a special celebration, an appropriately outstanding place to have the party had to be found.
The venue this year is simply phenomenal. The San Filippo Estate in Barrington is like the Wonka Factory of mechanical and musical goodies from the pre-war era. An 8,000 pipe organ fills one massive room, while the walls are flanked by priceless, fully restored music players. In another room, dozens of fully restored coin operated nickelodeons and antique slot machines steadfastly line up in endless rows of Edwardian splendor. Every conceivable model of phonograph is present, along with a giant turn of the century French carousel. Guests of the benefit will be able to take tours of these amazing items and will be eating right in front of the grand Eden Palais carousel. Tours will begin at 5pm, and the official festivities will begin at 7pm with dinner seating.
All glitz aside, this is an event to help our communities and children, first and foremost. MYA students hail from 75 communities in several states, and each student brings back with them the set of values and life lessons learned at rehearsal. Orchestra students as it turns out, are not measurably active in the gang community and do not turn to weapons violence (usually they’re too busy practicing!). Midwest Young Artists’ budget breaks down to: 59% from student tuition, 28% from contributions, and 13% from ticket and ad sales. The benefit is a fun way of both recognizing the donors and friends that have helped MYA become great, and raising a little bit of revenue to cover operating costs and further scholarship & outreach activities.
Reservations can be made online, in person, or over the phone: www.mya.org/benefit, (847) 926-9898, or visit us at 878 Lyster Road, Highwood Illinois. Email: MYA@mya.org Event date: April 29th, 7pm
