The lecture takes place on Tuesday June 17th, 2014 at 7 pm at the Knollwood Club. A cash bar will precede the event at 6:30 pm and continue following the lecture. The lecture is free to members of Knollwood Club, $10 for members of the Historical Society and $15 for nonmembers. The “Jazz Age” is typically thought of as the time between the end of WWI in 1918 and the crash of the Stock Market in October of 1929. This lecture will present a snapshot of Lake Forest during this period. It will include the community’s connection to the original flapper, Irene Castle, and to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. It was an era of growth, grand homes by estate architect David Adler, and the great game of golf.
