Description
Ragdale concludes its fifth annual Ragdale Ring Performance Series with A Persephone Pageant, an outdoor spectacle performance, weaving together mythical tales of nature gods and true stories of environmental justice on Saturday, September 16. Guests are invited to arrive at 4:30pm for the participatory performance workshop; then at 6pm the Pageant begins.
This multi-arts spectacle is inspired by the myth of Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Springtime and the Underworld, and explores the Great Lakes, their history, and the victories and challenges associated with their preservation. The Pageant will be staged against the magnificent prairie backdrop, behind the Ragdale House with audience members on the adjacent grass. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and picnic for this one-of-a-kind, outdoor, arts-filled afternoon.
The performance is curated and produced by Ragdale alumna Tria Smith who has brought together a stellar creative team, including directors Jessica Thebus (head of Northwestern Directing Program) and Thom Pasculli (Artistic Director of Walkabout Theater), Mark Messing (composer), Kristina Isabelle (stilt choreography), with original text from MacArthur Fellow Sarah Ruhl and Morgan McNaught and dramaturgy by Regina Victor. This performance will also be featured in the Chicago Park District’s “Night Out in the Parks” from August 20 -27.
