Description
Lake Forest Lake Bluff Running Club has organized this race since 2013, raising funds for the Center for Conservative Leadership (CCL), a program to train middle and high school students to become steward of the environment. The Swinging Bridge 8K Trail Race is one of the first ?green? races in Illinois, meaning the shirts are made of sustainable material, the goodie bag is virtual, water cups and left over food is composted, and the Preserve is left better after the race! The unique race award medals even contain seeds for participants to plant. The race is certified by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) and is also ?Green Certified? by CARA. The run is a community event on a beautiful scenic trail. It introduces runners and walkers to Lake Forest Open Lands and its bucolic, natural surroundings. Note that this is a trail race and the course has uneven surfaces. The course starts on an asphalt path, with a road crossing then moves onto the prairie trail. The female record holder for the race is former Olympic marathoner and local resident, Jenny Spangler. Jenny is still active in the local running community and ranks this race as one of her favorites. Male record holder is Nate Mc Pherson. This year the race will be part of a new, exciting competition on the North Shore---The LAKE COUNTY RACE SERIES! Four of the major Lake Forest, Lake Bluff races have teamed up to offer prize money for top runner in all four events. The Series started with the GLASA Twilight Run on Sep 12, followed by the Swinging Bridge Race on Oct 4, the Lake Bluff PTO Pumpkin Chase on Oct 17 and then the LEAD Red Ribbon Race on Oct 24. Each of these races supports key non-profits serving the LF-LB area. Results will be compiled for all four races and $900 will be awarded to the top three finishers in four Age-graded groups. (Age grading provides a chance to win regardless of age or gender.) Runners don?t have to run all four races, but their chances will improve with the number of races run. The location is unparalleled, the cause is unique, and now competing for prize money in an exciting new race series - makes this a stellar community event!
