Description
“The Sound of Music” will be presented three times by the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart Theatre Program. All performances are in the Susan Saint James Performing Arts Center at Woodlands Academy, 760 E. Westleigh Road, Lake Forest, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, Friday, Feb. 27, and Saturday, Feb. 28. Set amidst the beauty of the Bavarian Alps, “The Sound of Music” unfolds in 1938, the year of the Anschluss—when Nazi Germany annexed Austria and forever changed life in Central Europe. We meet Maria, a young novice nun who – challenged by the strict rules that govern her daily life – is sent to become the governess for a local family of seven children. She quickly brings the joy of music back into the lives of Captain Georg von Trapp and his children – a warmth they had lost following the death of von Trapp’s wife. The famous writing team of Rodgers and Hammerstein brought “The Sound of Music” to Broadway in 1959 as their final collaboration; the production won several Tony Awards (including Best Musical), and the subsequent film version of the musical has been considered one of the most beloved family films of all time. Tickets for Woodlands Academy’s production are $20 at the door/$15 in advance. To order tickets, or for information, visit www.woodlandsacademy.org/soundofmusic.
