Description
Guess who’s hanging out at Lake Bluff History Museum?
Puppets!
On Saturday January 15, the Museum opens its newest exhibit, Just Imagine: Puppetry Magic. Stop by on opening day during extended hours from 1 to 3 pm, or come by during our regular hours Monday-Thursday from 1 to 4 pm and Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. The exhibit will be up for a while!
This display features a troupe of puppets created in the mid-20th century by Lake Bluff educator Margaret Lindman with her husband Richard and her sister Mary Griffith. In the 1950s and ’60s, the trio created hundreds of marionettes, hand puppets and stage sets out of wood, metal, papier maché and other materials found around the Lindman house on Garfield Avenue.
Margaret and the marionettes performed a variety of children’s stories including Peter Pan, The Snow Queen, Pinocchio and Puss ‘n Boots in venues such as Ravinia in Highland Park and Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry. She gained a broader audience in the early 1960s by hosting a weekly television show, Just Imagine, on WTTW.
This is an exhibit for kids of all ages! Hand puppets and a marionette let youngsters explore the magic of puppetry.
The Museum looks forward to sharing this new exhibit, featuring the Lindman Marionette Troupe and brought to life with the help of Deb Zare, Carrie Zare and Marcus Norman, with the community. Please drop by!
